Organic vs. Sustainable

The words organic and sustainable often reside in the same sentence. In most instances advocate groups and the media make these two words synonymous with eachother. Such characterization is detrimental. Yes, sustainability does speak to how a crop was grown or an animal was raised, but it means: can I repeat the process over and over again, without significant harm to the environment, in a world with fewer and fewer resources. Organic is one tool in that toolbox, but not a cure-all. The pitfall of organic is that it does not produce the yields that society demands with the resources we have.

Just food for thought.
